The Story Behind Metamorphosis
Hi, my name is Jamie, and I make art from the photographs I take of beautiful landscapes. It is my goal to create images that evoke the same emotions for my viewers as I had when standing at the scene taking the photo.
On this day, I found myself standing in the middle of Yosemite Valley, looking up at the most beautiful set of waterfalls that I had ever seen. The cliffs towered high in the sky, and the birds chirped happily. I could smell the fresh air and pine from the trees surrounding me. As I stood there in awe, I thought about those who stood there before me. I looked around and noticed hikers who seemed to be in a hurry. Youngsters on their iPads. Parents on their phones. I wondered if they even realized the beauty that surrounded them. Not one person was savoring the moment or taking in the sights of this beautiful place.
Then I wondered what I might see if I stood there long enough. How would the scene change? From daytime until nighttime and beyond. What would the metamorphosis look like? What if it were possible to take in all the sights at once? That was the art I wanted to create.
I returned over several days at different times. Sometimes early, sometimes late. Sometimes, I stayed until everyone else was gone. I loved every moment of my experience and wished I could stay in the moment forever. More importantly, I wanted everyone around me to stop and look, too.
